Cameos
of Caring
Nurses
are the backbone of health care. They are the bridge between doctors and
patients and symbols of healing and hope. To honor nurses for their hard
work and dedication, the University
of Pittsburgh School of Nursing has created the Cameos of Caring awards.
The
awards are given annually to exceptional bedside nurses from area acute
care hospitals whose compassion and caring embody the spirit and profession
of nursing. Twenty-seven acute care hospitals in western Pennsylvania,
including all UPMC hospitals, participate in the Cameos of Caring awards.
Each hospital nominates staff members and selects a Cameo recipient who
exemplifies the essence of the awards.
The
winners have:
- demonstrated a
comprehensive understanding of the art and science of nursing and a
strong desire to use this knowledge to improve patient care delivery
- demonstrated a
commitment to consistent, clinical decision making and excellence in
nursing care
- served as an effective
advocate for patients and their families
- encouraged and
motivated others by example and have been recognized as a role model
for the nursing profession
In 2006, the very best nurses from UPMC were honored at the 2006 Cameos of Caring Awards Gala at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
